A Little Heaven on Earth

I’ve recently been poring over two beautiful design books.  First up, of course, is Phoebe Howard’s “The Joy of Decorating.

I’ve had it for awhile, and I realized I hadn’t told you about it yet.  It has to be one of the most beautiful design books ever, but that’s easy to do when you (or in this case, Mrs. Howard) decorate the most beautiful spaces.  I love her spaces because of the grace that resides in them.

While the rooms are very finished, they don’t feel ostentatious.  It’s not a stretch to feel like my little, very regular family could live there.  That balance is what makes me idolize Mrs. Howard so much.

I loooove this bedroom! The colors, fabric combinations, sighhh………………..

You absolutely have to get a copy of this book for your library.  I’ve gone through it an unnumbered amount of times now, and I’m still not sick of it.  I don’t think I ever will be, either.

The other book I’ve been reading is called “Bringing Nature Home.”

I saw this book on Design Sponge last week, and I fell immediately and purchased it.  Hey, it promised gorgeous interiors as well as stunning flower arrangements, so I couldn’t resist.

And I wasn’t disappointed.

While we don’t have the amount of flowers here in the mountains as other people do in other parts of the country, it made me start thinking about the seasons and what parts of nature could be brought into my home, with little cost.

And now I’m on the lookout for a giant apothecary jar in time to hold some beautiful spring branches……….

Happy Monday!

  1. BEAUTIFUL pictures! I love the dining room with the swordfish on the wall! What a fun pop of color!

As or apothecary jars, I’ve been making them and selling them locally. They’re super easy (and cheap) to make! Here’s a website I used to get started: http://salttree.blogspot.com/2011/08/apothecary-esk-dyi.html

    • How fun! I would love a very flat, heavy bottomed one, almost like a giant mason or canning jar. Simple in shape. If you are selling one……..have a great day!
